Custom VPN Services or: "One size fits none"

Be aware that "one size fits none". VPN software does not just install and make you secure automagically. You need to be assured that your VPN is really private by a capable security professional. If your VPN is compromised, then no firewall can save your network resources from compromise.

What is a VPN?
A Virtual Private Network is a collection of security conventions and tools that provide encrypted tunnels through the public Internet*; allowing a private set of functions to operate as though the participants were on a private network. These services can allow secure remote logins to corporate intranets using laptops and other remote network connected computers. You can now have multiple factor authentication consisting of something you know (the password), something you have (e.g. a smart card), and something you are (e.g. a thumbprint). You can have this today, or as soon as our engineers can arrive on-site to give out serial port or PCMCIA devices to your employees and implement the software.

How can I get one?
There are a number of VPN software manufacturers, Checkpoint, Cisco, Lucent, eSoft, IP Dynamics, and V-One are among the more well known and reliable makers of software and appliances that support VPNs. However, given the nature of the technology marketplace and the desirability of future product support, we cannot endorse any specific future prospect for any of these currently well-thought-of companies.

Well then, where does ISC fit into the picture?
We don't make VPN software. We can develop custom software for you using the OpenSSH API's if it's necessary to solve your problems, but generally we use existing VPN software on your behalf. We're just giving you the best most helpful service we can.

Generally we provide value-added services to even the most well-established and professionally done VPN implementations (even if we didn't implement them) by performing security certifications, ongoing security reviews, and fine-tuning technical and policy recommendations to enhance security.

Of course we would love to talk with you about doing the primary installation, policy decision, and configuration of your new VPN, but we can also provide after-the-fact services, including intrusion detection, if you have reason to believe your system has been compromised by particularly stealthy or surreptitious intruders. We can also provide broader scale complete security solutions to systems integrators and other technical consultants. See our list of partners.
