Earl Stutes, Systems Engineer

Mr. Stutes is a 1967 Graduate of San Jose State University. He also has a MSEE from Santa Clara University. He began his engineering career designing hardware and software tools to test Hewlett Packard computers. His initial involvement with networking was developing a computer integrated manufacturing line for the HP hand held calculators. He also developed and managed a network of machines for HP Laboratories using fiber optic techonolgy in the late 1970's.

Beginning in 1982 he was part of the group that ported BSD UNIX to Hewlett Packard computers. He later ported the BSD 4.3 tcp/ip onto the Pyramid machine, and implemented the appletalk protocol stack for the Pyramid.

During the time of the Morris worm problem on the Internet he was a senior network administrator for the NASA NASF at Ames Research Center, and was involved in isolating and analyzing the problem.

Since 1990, he has been a software consultant, specializing in UNIX administration and network issues. In this venture he is the Systems Consultant and Implementation Engineer.
